2024 Early Outlook For SEC Football Teams: Auburn

One in a series

Every team wants to get off to a good start. For Auburn, it appears to be particularly important. First of all, the Tigers can ill afford to take any team for granted. Last year the Tigers were cruising along and then came New Mexico State and an upset loss to perhaps the worst team in the nation. No matter. The fans in Jordan-Hare Stadium were pushing against the fence (and some of them, reportedly paying for the privilege, were already being ushered onto the sidelines) for the charge-the-field win that would make everything right. And then it wasn’t. Jalen Milroe to Isaiah Bond and a 27-24 Alabama win, the Tide’s fourth in a row over the Tigers. Auburn was still bowl eligible, but that bowl was an embarrassing 31-13 loss to Maryland in Music City. In hindsight, what could have been a nine-win season was just another losing season, third in a row.
