Tomasz Wiktorowski, the former coach of Iga Swiatek, speaks out about the “necessity” of their breakup: “We have never made sudden, ill-considered decisions.”

  1. Tomasz Wiktorowski, the former coach of Iga Świątek, recently discussed their professional split, emphasizing that the decision was neither rushed nor made on a whim. Both Wiktorowski and Świątek made it clear that their separation was a mutual decision, based on the need for a new direction in Świątek’s game. Świątek credited Wiktorowski for guiding her to the top of the tennis world, helping her win four Grand Slam titles and achieve the No. 1 ranking during their three-year partnership. However, she expressed the desire for a fresh perspective as she looks to improve her performance on surfaces beyond her stronghold of clay courts.

Wiktorowski, for his part, mentioned that the split was inevitable as both parties had reached a point where progress was slowing. He noted that in high-stakes professional relationships, it is essential to keep evolving, and in this case, they both realized that it was time for change. While Wiktorowski did not indicate any personal conflicts, he alluded to the fact that the coaching-player relationship had run its course, and further growth required new strategies and approaches.

The decision comes at a crucial time for Świątek, who is focused on expanding her dominance across all surfaces. Her quest for continual improvement is reflected in her search for a new coach, likely from outside Poland, as she aims to bolster her game to compete more consistently on faster courts.
