In a stunning turn of events, four-star defensive lineman (DL) Marcus Taylor has decommitted from the Michigan Wolverines and announced his commitment to the Florida State Seminoles, leaving both fan bases buzzing. Taylor, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound standout from Atlanta, Georgia, made the announcement on Tuesday via social media, citing a shift in his personal goals and alignment with Florida State’s program vision.
“I want to thank Michigan for believing in me and offering me an opportunity,” Taylor wrote. “But after careful thought and prayer, I’ve decided to commit to Florida State University. I feel like this is the best place for me to grow as a player and a person.”
Taylor had been a solid verbal commit to Michigan for nearly six months, and his decision to flip to Florida State caught many off guard. His recruitment had been hotly contested, with programs like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU also in the mix. However, the Wolverines were believed to have locked in his commitment until recent weeks, when Taylor visited Florida State unofficially.
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell and defensive line coach Odell Haggins were instrumental in securing Taylor’s pledge. Taylor praised their coaching style and Florida State’s player development during his announcement.
For the Seminoles, Taylor’s addition bolsters an already strong 2024 recruiting class, which is ranked in the top five nationally. His decision underscores Florida State’s growing reputation as a destination for elite defensive talent.
Meanwhile, Michigan faces a setback as they look to replace Taylor in their recruiting efforts. While the Wolverines remain a powerhouse, losing a top-tier recruit of Taylor’s caliber just weeks before National Signing Day adds pressure to their recruiting staff.
Taylor is expected to enroll early at Florida State, giving the Seminoles a head start in developing one of the nation’s most promising defensive linemen.
