Mark Pope Provides Key Update on Kerr Kriisa’s Injury Status and Recovery Timeline

Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope provided an important update on the status of guard Kerr Kriisa’s injury during a press conference on January 20, 2025. Kriisa, who suffered a broken foot on December 7 in a game against Gonzaga, has been undergoing a structured recovery process.

Pope described Kriisa’s rehabilitation as “completely predictable and scripted,” suggesting that the timeline for his recovery is on track. The coach confirmed that Kriisa is now out of his walking boot and has begun transitioning to light physical activity. However, Pope stopped short of guaranteeing his return to the lineup this season, noting that only 13 regular-season games remain, with the SEC tournament just seven weeks away.

“There’s still a lot to evaluate before we determine his readiness for game action,” Pope said. “We’re taking it one step at a time and prioritizing his long-term health and development.”

Kriisa, a key playmaker for the Wildcats, was averaging 10.4 points and 6.2 assists per game before his injury. His absence has been a challenge for the team, but Pope expressed confidence in players like Travis Perry and Collin Chandler, who have stepped up in Kriisa’s absence.

While a return during the postseason remains a possibility, Pope also mentioned that Kriisa could apply for a medical redshirt, allowing him to retain eligibility for another season at Kentucky.

The Wildcats are currently navigating a competitive SEC schedule, and the team’s ability to adapt without Kriisa will be crucial. Fans remain hopeful for his return, but Pope emphasized the importance of making decisions that benefit both Kriisa and the team in the long run.
