Kevin Durant has finally addressed speculation about a potential return to the Golden State Warriors, making it clear that his decision had nothing to do with past drama or his relationship with Draymond Green. Instead, the Phoenix Suns star explained that he simply didn’t want to be traded midseason.
“People talk crazy about me all the time. That’s not why I didn’t come back—I just didn’t want to be traded midseason,” Durant said. “It had nothing to do with my time with the Warriors or any issues with Draymond. I just wanted to stay in Phoenix and see what we can accomplish the rest of the season. I’m glad I’m still here.”
Durant’s comments come after weeks of speculation leading up to the NBA trade deadline. With Golden State struggling and looking for a boost, rumors swirled that the Warriors were interested in reuniting with the two-time Finals MVP. Many fans pointed to Durant’s past success with the franchise, where he won back-to-back championships and formed a dominant partnership with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
However, despite the Warriors’ reported interest, no deal materialized, and Durant remains committed to Phoenix. The Suns are still fighting for position in the Western Conference, and Durant appears focused on making a deep playoff run alongside Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
As one of the league’s biggest stars, Durant’s every move is under scrutiny, and his history with Golden State only fuels the conversation. But for now, he’s made his stance clear—his decision wasn’t about the past but about finishing what he started in Phoenix.
