TOUCH DOWN FEW MINUTE AGO:a FSU head coach Mike Norvell officially announced its departure, following NFL proposal as the head coach of New….

In a surprising turn of events, Florida State University (FSU) head football coach Mike Norvell has announced his resignation to accept a head coaching position in the National Football League (NFL). This decision comes on the heels of a challenging season for the Seminoles, who are currently enduring a 1-9 record, marking their worst performance since 1974.

Norvell’s tenure at FSU began in December 2019, and he quickly made significant strides in revitalizing the program. The pinnacle of his college coaching career came in the 2023 season when he led the Seminoles to a flawless 13-0 record, clinching the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship. Despite this achievement, FSU was controversially excluded from the College Football Playoff, becoming the first undefeated Power Five conference champion to be left out. The team subsequently faced a heavy defeat against the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl, concluding the season with a 63-3 loss.

The 2024 season, however, has been a stark contrast to the previous year’s success. The Seminoles have struggled immensely, currently holding a 1-9 record. The downturn in performance led Norvell to make significant staff changes in November 2024, including the dismissal of offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, and receivers coach Ron Dugans, following a 52-3 loss to Notre Dame.

In December 2024, Norvell demonstrated his commitment to FSU by agreeing to a restructured contract, which included a $4.5 million contribution to launch the Vision of Excellence initiative. This initiative aimed to enhance various aspects of the university’s athletics, providing state-of-the-art facilities and improved training programs for student-athletes.

Despite these efforts, the allure of the NFL proved irresistible for Norvell. His departure marks a significant transition for both him and FSU. The university now faces the task of finding a successor who can navigate the program through this tumultuous period and restore its former glory.

Norvell’s move to the NFL underscores the dynamic nature of coaching careers and the constant evolution within football’s coaching ranks. As he embarks on this new chapter, both FSU and its supporters will undoubtedly reflect on his contributions and the challenges that lie ahead in the program’s pursuit of excellence.
