Indiana University has officially appointed Darian DeVries as the 31st head coach of its men’s basketball program. The announcement comes after an extensive search process following the departure of former coach Mike Woodson.
DeVries, 48, previously served as the head coach at West Virginia, where he made a significant impact by revitalizing the program. Before that, he spent time at Drake, leading the Bulldogs to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. His strong track record of player development and team success made him a top candidate for the Indiana job.
In his introductory press conference, DeVries expressed excitement about joining the Hoosiers and emphasized his commitment to restoring the program’s winning tradition. “Indiana basketball has an incredible history, and I am honored to be part of this legacy. I look forward to working with our players and building a team that competes at the highest level,” he said.
Indiana Athletic Director Scott Dolson praised DeVries’ leadership and coaching philosophy, stating, “Darian is a proven winner. His ability to develop players and create a competitive culture aligns perfectly with our vision for Indiana basketball.”
The hiring has generated mixed reactions among fans and analysts. While some believe DeVries is the right choice to lead Indiana back to national prominence, others question whether he can handle the pressure of coaching in one of college basketball’s most storied programs.
As DeVries takes over, his first task will be shaping the roster for the upcoming season. Several players have already entered the transfer portal, and recruiting will be a top priority. Indiana fans will be eager to see if DeVries can bring the Hoosiers back to championship contention in the coming years.
