The Nebraska men’s tennis team faced a challenging weekend in Big Ten play, finishing with a 1-1 record against ranked opponents. The Cornhuskers took on two of the conference’s top teams, showcasing both their resilience and areas for improvement.

On Friday, Nebraska faced the No. 18-ranked Michigan Wolverines in a hard-fought match that ultimately ended in a 4-1 defeat for the Cornhuskers. Despite strong performances in singles, including a notable victory from senior Jack Piller, Nebraska struggled to capitalize on key opportunities in doubles play. Michigan’s depth and experience proved too much to overcome, but Nebraska showed promise in several individual matchups.

The Cornhuskers bounced back on Sunday with a thrilling 4-2 win over No. 22-ranked Indiana, earning a much-needed victory in front of their home crowd. Nebraska’s doubles teams performed better, securing an early lead, and the singles competition saw solid contributions from freshmen and veterans alike. Jack Piller continued to shine, delivering a crucial singles win to help secure the overall team victory.

Nebraska’s head coach, Sean Maymi, praised his team’s effort, particularly their ability to rebound after the tough loss to Michigan. “We faced a lot of adversity, but the guys came out strong today against Indiana. It’s a testament to their character and determination,” Maymi said after the match.

With the split result, Nebraska moves to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten play. As the team looks ahead to more conference matchups, they remain focused on building consistency and continuing to improve in both doubles and singles play. The upcoming weeks will be crucial as they aim to climb the Big Ten standings and secure a spot in the NCAA tournament.
