Fl
orida Gators have secured a major recruiting win, landing elite guard Xavier Wilson, who announced his commitment to UF over Wisconsin and Alabama. The highly touted four-star prospect made his decision public on Saturday, giving head coach Todd Golden and his staff a massive boost heading into the next season.
Wilson, a 6-foot-4 combo guard out of Chicago, is ranked among the top 50 players in the 2025 recruiting class. Known for his explosive scoring ability, defensive versatility, and high basketball IQ, he had drawn interest from multiple powerhouse programs. Ultimately, Florida’s fast-paced playing style and developmental approach convinced him to make Gainesville his future home.
“I felt like Florida was the best place for me to grow as a player and a person,” Wilson said in his commitment announcement. “The coaching staff believes in my abilities, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
Wilson’s decision is a significant victory for the Gators, who are looking to establish themselves as a top contender in the SEC. With his ability to create shots, facilitate the offense, and lock down defensively, he is expected to make an immediate impact.
Wisconsin and Alabama had aggressively pursued Wilson, with both programs offering key roles in their future backcourts. However, Florida’s strong recruiting push and fit within their system sealed the deal.
Wilson now joins an impressive Gators recruiting class that already features several high-upside talents. With his commitment, Florida’s backcourt depth and overall roster strength continue to trend upward.
With national signing day approaching, Wilson’s pledge sends a strong message that the Gators are serious about competing at the highest level in college basketball.
