The Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball program is undergoing significant changes following a challenging 2024-25 season. The team concluded with a 19-13 record, missing the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year, which led to the dismissal of head coach Mike Woodson. Woodson’s tenure began with promise but was marred by inconsistent performances and unmet expectations.
In response, Indiana University has appointed Darian DeVries as the new head coach, marking the sixth coaching change since 2000. DeVries, previously at Drake University, is recognized for his ability to revitalize programs and is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Hoosiers.
The roster is also experiencing notable shifts. Sophomore forward Malik Reneau, who led the team with an average of 13.3 points per game during the 2024-25 season, has transferred to the University of Miami. Reneau, a Florida native, cited a desire to return home as a key factor in his decision.
Additionally, former McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit Mackenzie Mgbako is exploring transfer options and has scheduled a visit with the University of Kentucky. Mgbako averaged 12.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season, contributing significantly to the Hoosiers’ efforts.
These developments indicate a period of transition for Indiana basketball. The combination of a new coaching staff and potential roster changes presents both challenges and opportunities as the program aims to reestablish itself as a competitive force in collegiate basketball.
