Arkansas baseball’s Zach Root earns SEC pitcher of the week award….

Arkansas Razorbacks’ left-handed pitcher Zach Root has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Pitcher of the Week, recognizing his outstanding performance in recent games. Root, a junior transfer from East Carolina University, has made a significant impact on the Razorbacks’ pitching staff this season.

In a dominant outing against Portland on March 8, 2025, Root delivered six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out ten batters. This performance was instrumental in Arkansas securing a 10-0 victory, extending their winning streak to ten games.

Reflecting on his performance, Root emphasized his ongoing development: “I’m still trying to continue developing. [I want to] make all the pitches sharper, but I’m on the path that I thought I was going to be transferring here.”

Root’s journey to Arkansas has been marked by consistent excellence. During his sophomore year at East Carolina, he posted a 6-2 record with a 3.56 ERA and 76 strikeouts over 68.1 innings, earning a spot on the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award.

His transition to the SEC has been seamless, with Root quickly establishing himself as a key contributor to the Razorbacks’ rotation. His recent accolade as SEC Pitcher of the Week underscores his growing prominence and the vital role he plays in Arkansas’s pursuit of conference success.
