“SG Josh Dix Shocks College Basketball World with Bold Commitment to Miami Hurricanes Under Coach Jai Lucas, Leaving Iowa State’s Future in Doubt”

The college basketball community, standout shooting guard Josh Dix has committed to the University of Miami’s men’s basketball program under newly appointed head coach Jai Lucas. This decision leaves Iowa State’s future uncertain, as Dix was previously a key target for the Cyclones.

Dix, a 6-foot-6 guard from Council Bluffs, Iowa, has been a significant contributor to the Iowa Hawkeyes over the past three seasons. During the 2024–25 season, he started all 32 games, averaging 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. His impressive shooting percentages—50.7% from the field and 42.2% from three-point range—highlight his efficiency and scoring prowess. Notably, Dix delivered a career-high 31-point performance against Nebraska, showcasing his ability to dominate offensively.

The departure of longtime Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery on March 14, 2025, led to significant roster changes, with Dix becoming the fifth Hawkeye to enter the transfer portal. His commitment to Miami represents a major acquisition for Coach Lucas, who aims to revitalize the Hurricanes’ basketball program. Lucas, introduced as Miami’s head coach in March 2025, emphasized building strong relationships and overhauling the roster to foster a culture of success.

Dix’s decision to join Miami over Iowa State and other programs underscores the growing appeal of the Hurricanes under Lucas’s leadership. For Iowa State, missing out on a player of Dix’s caliber raises questions about their recruitment strategy and future competitiveness in the Big 12 Conference. As Dix brings his sharpshooting skills and experience to Miami, the Hurricanes are poised to make significant strides in the upcoming season.
