Top-Ranked Player in the Nation Chooses Miami Hurricanes Men’s Basketball Over Alabama and Georgia Bulldogs

Jalil Bethea, a five-star shooting guard from Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, Pennsylvania, has committed to the University of Miami’s men’s basketball program, choosing the Hurricanes over offers from Kansas, Villanova, and Alabama.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 170 pounds, Bethea is ranked as the No. 6 overall player in the 2024 class according to the On3 Industry Rankings, making him the highest-ranked recruit in Miami’s history. He is also considered the second-ranked shooting guard in his class.

During his junior season at Archbishop Wood, Bethea averaged 23.2 points per game, earning the Philadelphia Catholic League Most Valuable Player honors. On the Nike EYBL circuit with Team Final, he maintained an average of 18.6 points per game and shot 42.6 percent from three-point range.

Bethea’s commitment bolsters Miami’s 2024 recruiting class, which now includes four-star shooting guard Austin Swartz and four-star small forward Isaiah Johnson-Arigu. This trio has elevated the Hurricanes’ class to No. 6 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite Class Calculator.

In an interview with On3, Bethea expressed his reasons for choosing Miami: “I chose Miami because it is the best fit for me and my career going forward and for my goal which is going to the league.” He also described his playing style, likening himself to NBA players Devin Booker, Tyler Herro, and Jordan Poole, emphasizing his shooting ability, ball-handling, defense, and playmaking skills.
