Indiana Hoosiers standout Malik Reneau has once again sent shockwaves through the college basketball world with a major announcement that caught even his head coach off guard. In a surprising turn of events, Reneau revealed Monday that he will be declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft, foregoing his remaining college eligibility.
The announcement came via a heartfelt social media post in which Reneau thanked Indiana University, his coaches, teammates, and the Hoosier faithful for their unwavering support.
“These past few years in Bloomington have meant everything to me,” Reneau wrote. “I’ve grown as a player and as a person, and after long conversations with my family and coaches, I’ve decided to chase my dream and declare for the NBA Draft.”
The news was met with a mix of celebration and disbelief. Head Coach Mike Woodson, who had been preparing for Reneau’s return for one final season, expressed both pride and surprise during an impromptu press conference.
“I’m shocked, to be honest,” Woodson admitted. “Malik and I had been discussing his future, and while we knew the NBA was always the goal, I thought we’d get one more season with him. But I support him 100 percent. He’s earned this opportunity.”
Reneau, who averaged 16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists this past season, played a crucial role in the Hoosiers’ success and emerged as one of the Big Ten’s top talents.
With his departure, Indiana faces a significant challenge in rebuilding its frontcourt, but the program remains supportive of Reneau’s journey to the next level.
As the NBA Draft approaches, all eyes will now turn to Reneau’s stock—one that continues to rise following his breakout year with the Hoosiers.
