In an era where loyalty is often overshadowed by lucrative offers and transfer portal headlines, Egor Demin has made a powerful statement. The rising star guard has officially signed a three-year contract extension with the BYU Cougars, solidifying his commitment to the program that gave him his first shot at college basketball greatness.
The announcement comes just days after Demin shocked the NCAA world by turning down a massive $5.4 million NIL offer from Auburn and another strong pitch from Alabama. Instead of chasing the biggest payday, the 6-foot-9 Russian guard chose to double down on his belief in BYU and head coach Kevin Young.
“I’m here for the long haul,” Demin said in a press release. “BYU believed in me from the start, and now it’s my turn to give everything I have back to this team, this school, and this fanbase. We’re building something special here.”
Demin’s new deal will keep him in Provo through the 2027-28 season, giving the Cougars long-term stability around one of the most versatile and dynamic guards in college basketball. He averaged 14.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in his freshman season, drawing attention from NBA scouts and major programs alike.
Head coach Kevin Young praised Demin’s maturity and commitment, calling him “the heart of this team” and “a leader both on and off the court.”
With this extension, BYU not only secures its star player but also sends a message to the rest of the Big 12 — the Cougars are not just here to compete, they’re here to contend.
