The Florida Gators have secured a commitment from five-star quarterback DJ Lagway, outmaneuvering prominent programs such as USC, Clemson, Texas A&M, and Baylor. Lagway, hailing from Willis High School in Texas, is ranked as the No. 24 player and the fourth-ranked quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Lagway’s decision to join Florida underscores his confidence in the Gators’ future. He expressed enthusiasm about the coaching staff and the offensive system, stating, “I feel they’re going to build something special and I definitely want to be part of it. The coaching staff, I have a really good relationship with those guys. I love the system that they have. Coach Napier has an amazing system and I feel I fit perfectly in there.”
Throughout his senior season, Lagway has demonstrated exceptional performance, completing 76% of his passes for 2,642 yards and 36 touchdowns over seven games. His dual-threat capability is further highlighted by his five rushing touchdowns and over 300 yards on the ground. On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power, noted, “Lagway may be off to the hottest start among all 2024 quarterbacks… He continues to look like the best off-platform passer in the cycle.”
This commitment is a pivotal addition to head coach Billy Napier’s 2024 recruiting class, aiming to revitalize the Gators’ competitive edge in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Lagway’s commitment also positions him as a potential leader in attracting other top-tier recruits to Gainesville. He conveyed his readiness to contribute to the team’s recruitment efforts, stating, “I’m truly ready to start recruiting. That’s why I wanted to decide early so I can go ahead and start building up that No. 1 class.”
