Florida State University’s football team is making significant strides in its spring training sessions under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Norvell. The team has completed nine of its 15 scheduled spring practices, with six remaining before the annual Garnet and Gold Spring Game.
The recent second spring scrimmage showcased a dominant performance by the defense, which has been revitalized under new coordinator Tony White. The defensive unit’s aggressive and high-energy approach limited the offense to an early touchdown, controlling the remainder of the scrimmage. Standout players included Omar Graham, KJ Sampson, and Christian White, with Sampson notably recording a pick-six.
Conversely, the offense faced challenges, grappling with injuries among wide receivers and the offensive line, leading to inconsistent execution. Despite these setbacks, glimpses of potential were evident in Gus Malzahn’s offensive system. Quarterbacks Tommy Castellanos, Brock Glenn, and freshman Kevin Sperry each had moments of promise, with Sperry’s speed and composure drawing attention. Running back Roydell Williams provided a steady presence in the ground game, while wide receiver Elijah Moore made key receptions.
Coach Norvell emphasized the necessity for the team to maintain intensity and consistency throughout practices. He highlighted the importance of seizing every opportunity and treating each play as pivotal. Norvell also commended the development of several offensive linemen, including Jonathan Daniels, Luke Petitbon, Adrian Medley, Andre’ Otto, and TJ Ferguson, as well as wide receivers Jayvon Boggs and Elijah Moore.
As the Seminoles progress through their spring training, the focus remains on fostering cohesion and resilience, aiming to build a well-rounded team ready to tackle the challenges of the upcoming
season.
