Roundtable: Early thoughts, takeaways from 2025 FSU football schedule

Florida State University’s (FSU) 2025 football schedule presents a blend of formidable challenges and strategic opportunities as the Seminoles aim to rebound from a disappointing 2-10 season in 2024. The season kicks off on August 30 with a high-profile home game against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium. This opener is anticipated to be a significant test for both teams, each introducing new quarterbacks and coaching strategies.

Following the Alabama matchup, FSU will host East Texas A&M and Kent State on September 6 and September 20, respectively. These games offer the Seminoles a chance to build momentum before entering the rigorous Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) schedule. The ACC slate begins with an away game against the Virginia Cavaliers on September 26, followed by a home rivalry clash with the Miami Hurricanes on October 4.

The mid-season stretch is particularly demanding, featuring consecutive road games against Clemson, Virginia Tech, and NC State. These matchups are pivotal, as they will likely influence FSU’s standing within the ACC and their prospects for postseason play. The regular season concludes with the traditional rivalry game against the Florida Gators in Gainesville on November 29.

Analysts have highlighted the importance of a strong start for FSU, emphasizing the need to capitalize on early non-conference games to build confidence and cohesion. The early bye week and the challenge of two Friday night road games have been noted as potential hurdles. Predictions for the season vary, with expectations ranging from a 6-6 to an 8-4 finish, contingent on key matchups and player performances.

Overall, the 2025 schedule offers FSU both significant challenges and opportunities to reestablish itself as a competitive force in college football.
