In a stunning development, former Oklahoma five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold has committed to Arkansas, marking a significant shift in the SEC landscape. Arnold, who entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason, announced his decision on Tuesday, opting to join one of the Sooners’ fiercest rivals.
The move comes after Arnold spent a season in Norman, where he was widely regarded as the future of Oklahoma’s offense. However, with Dillon Gabriel’s return for 2024 and stiff competition in the Sooners’ quarterback room, Arnold sought a fresh start. Arkansas, under head coach Sam Pittman, quickly emerged as a prime destination, offering Arnold an opportunity to be the immediate starter.
“Arkansas felt like the right place for me,” Arnold said in his announcement. “Coach Pittman and his staff believe in me, and I’m excited to compete and help bring something special to Fayetteville.”
The Razorbacks struggled offensively in 2023, finishing with a 4-8 record, leading to the departure of offensive coordinator Dan Enos. With new OC Bobby Petrino back in charge, Arkansas is revamping its passing attack, and Arnold is set to be the centerpiece of that transformation.
Arnold’s transfer adds fuel to the growing rivalry between Oklahoma and Arkansas, especially with the Sooners joining the SEC in 2024. His decision could have major implications for both programs, as Oklahoma loses a top-tier prospect, while Arkansas secures its quarterback of the future.
