In a major recruiting win, Alexis Markowski, the dominant five-star center-forward and double-double machine, has officially committed to Tennessee Vols women’s basketball, turning down high-profile offers from Kentucky, Ohio State, and Kansas Jayhawks.
Markowski, who previously starred for Nebraska, was one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal. Her ability to dominate the boards, score efficiently in the paint, and provide leadership made her a prime target for multiple powerhouse programs. However, after weighing her options, she chose to bring her talents to Knoxville.
“Tennessee felt like home,” Markowski said in her announcement. “The program’s history, coaching staff, and the incredible fan support made this decision easy for me. I’m excited to compete at the highest level and help bring championships back to the Lady Vols.”
Her commitment is a massive boost for Tennessee, which has been searching for a dominant inside presence to complement its talented roster. Last season, Markowski averaged a double-double with 17.2 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, making her one of the most consistent frontcourt players in the country.
Despite aggressive recruitment efforts from Kentucky, OSU, and Kansas, which reportedly included NIL deals and promises of expanded roles, Markowski prioritized Tennessee’s winning culture and development pipeline.
“This is a game-changing addition,” said Tennessee head coach Kellie Harper. “Alexis brings toughness, skill, and leadership that will elevate our program. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have her.”
With Markowski in the fold, the Lady Vols now position themselves as serious contenders in the SEC and on the national stage. Fans eagerly anticipate seeing her impact when she takes the court in Knoxville next season.
