During her high school career, Thompson earned five letters in basketball, three in soccer, and three in golf. She was a two-time All-Conference selection, two-time team captain, and two-time team MVP in basketball. Thompson also set school records at Rosemount High School, becoming the all-time leader in assists both for a single season and career, with a total of 380 assists. She scored 877 points, averaging 9.5 per game, and grabbed 375 defensive rebounds, ranking sixth all-time in school history.
