The Indiana Hoosiers are making significant strides in recruiting top talent from across the United States, reflecting a strategic shift towards a more national approach in both basketball and football programs.
In basketball, head coach Mike Woodson has successfully attracted elite players beyond Indiana’s borders. Notably, in October 2023, five-star small forward Liam McNeeley from Richardson, Texas, committed to the Hoosiers, choosing Indiana over Kansas. McNeeley, ranked No. 13 in the 2024 class, cited Indiana’s consistent recruitment efforts as a key factor in his decision. This commitment continues Indiana’s trend of securing top talent nationwide, following the addition of five-star forward Mackenzie Mgbako in May 2023.
The football program, under head coach Curt Cignetti, is also embracing a broader recruiting strategy. During the December 2024 signing period, Indiana signed 21 players, with 13 hailing from within a four-hour radius of Bloomington and others from states like Maryland and Tennessee. Cignetti emphasized the importance of recruiting, development, and retention in building a competitive team.
This nationwide recruitment approach aims to elevate Indiana’s athletic programs by attracting diverse talent, positioning the Hoosiers as formidable competitors on the national stage.
