In a stunning development, University of Nebraska women’s basketball star Alexis Markowski has been suspended for three months following what the athletic department is calling a “violation of team policies.”
The announcement came early Tuesday morning via an official statement from Nebraska Athletics, confirming that Markowski will be sidelined from all team activities, including summer training and preseason workouts, until mid-July.
While the university has not disclosed specific details regarding the incident, sources close to the program suggest that the suspension is tied to an off-court issue that breached team conduct standards. Multiple reports indicate the matter is being handled internally and does not involve criminal charges.
Markowski, a 6-foot-3 forward and one of the top players in the Big Ten, was instrumental in leading the Huskers to a deep conference run last season, averaging 17.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Her absence is a significant blow to the program as it prepares for a pivotal 2025-26 season.
In a brief statement shared on social media, Markowski addressed the suspension: “I take full responsibility for my actions and accept the consequences. I’m committed to learning from this and coming back stronger — for myself, my teammates, and the fans who support me.”
Head coach Amy Williams also issued a comment, noting, “Alexis is a key part of our team, and we believe in her ability to grow through this challenge. We will continue to support her while holding her accountable.”
