Former Northwestern guard Hailey Weaver commits to Nebraska

The Nebraska women’s basketball program received a boost as former Northwestern guard Hailey Weaver announced her commitment to the Huskers on Tuesday. The 5-foot-11 guard enters Nebraska with two years of eligibility remaining after spending her freshman season with the Wildcats.

Weaver, a versatile backcourt presence, saw limited playing time at Northwestern but impressed with her defensive instincts and athleticism. A highly-regarded recruit coming out of high school, Weaver was ranked as a top-100 player nationally and earned all-state honors in Texas. Known for her quick first step and ability to guard multiple positions, she brings a strong defensive presence and potential offensive upside to Nebraska’s roster.

“We’re excited to welcome Hailey to the Husker family,” Nebraska head coach Amy Williams said in a statement. “She brings a great combination of length, speed, and toughness to our guard group. We believe she has the potential to thrive in our system and make an immediate impact.”

Weaver will join a Nebraska team that is looking to build on a promising 2024-25 season. With key players returning and a strong incoming class, the addition of Weaver adds depth and flexibility to the Huskers’ backcourt. Her ability to contribute on both ends of the floor could help Nebraska compete more aggressively in a loaded Big Ten conference.

In a message shared on social media, Weaver thanked Northwestern for her first year of college basketball but expressed excitement about her future in Lincoln. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow and compete at Nebraska,” she wrote. “Can’t wait to get to work with my new teammates and coaches!”

Weaver is expected to join the Huskers this summer and begin workouts ahead of the 2025-26 season.
