Benni McCarthy opening at Kaizer Chiefs, will they sign him?

Benni McCarthy is unattached having left English Premier League outfit, Manchester United. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs needs an attack coach.

Kaizer Chiefs coaching revamp is underway. Three new coaches are already working with Amakhosi.

Moreover, Chiefs have confirmed a couple of key coaching departures. Additionally, another three coaches are on their way to join up with Amakhosi during their pre-season tour of Turkey in Europe. Interestingly, none of Nasreddine Nabi and Chiefs new technical staff are attack coaches. So, Benni McCarthy offers Chiefs something they don’t have and certainly need.

McCarthy is clubless. Therefore, he is available to join any club of his choosing. In fact, to make matters even more interesting, the Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana legend stated that he would not say no to Chiefs. Thus, hinting at a possible offer.

“If the opportunity arises to coach Kaizer Chiefs, obviously you will have to sit down and think about it,” McCarthy stated on SNL.

Now, another trend that has become clear at Chiefs is their poor finishing and lack of composure in front of goal. McCarthy is Bafana Bafana’s all-time top goal-scorer and he has just finished coaching the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jaden Sancho and Marcus Rashford. Ultimately, McCarthy will not only inspire Chiefs players due to his legacy and stature but he can also guide them in front of goal.

Chiefs managed just 25 goals in 30 games in the recent 2023/24 DStv Premiership. Therefore, the likes of Ashley Du Preez, Rango Chivaviro, Christian Saille as well as up-and-coming youngsters Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba need plenty of guidance. So, if Chiefs are to compete with the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates they need a clinical finisher in front of goal. A man capable of producing double-figures every season.

Percy Tau headlines Chiefs’ R200m transfer target shopping list.

Amakhosi management have placed a huge emphasis on securing a prolific striker. In fact, they are targetting R100m worth of striker targets from Bafana Bafana and PSL rivals. Imagine Tau under the guidance of McCarthy? That is a recipe for success at Naturena and disaster for opposition defenders.

Therefore, it will be up to Nabi and his team to decide whether they want a specialist striker coach or not. So, if they do, they will know very well that McCarthy is available and open to the move.
