Beau Michael Vincent Belga. sign new contract with boston celtics after terminating deal with PBA.

The PBA is eyeing to introduce some changes in its calendar and format ahead for its upcoming 49th season.

In a press conference on Wednesday, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said the league is now talking to a possible foreign team which can join in the second conference of next season, which will be the Commissioner’s Cup.

“May kausap na kami na baka may guest team tayo sa second conference. Tingnan natin. Nag-uusap pa,” Marcial said, adding that there are no concrete details yet about the guest team.

“May proposal din na baka mag-two imports. Baka lang. Depende ‘pag sumali ‘yung guest team, baka mag-two imports tayo,” he added.

(We’re talking to a team which could be a guest team in the second conference. Let’s see, we’re still talking. There is also a proposal that there could be two imports. Maybe. It depends on the guest team, maybe we can have two imports.)

The league’s calendar will also be tweaked to adapt to the upcoming FIBA windows and to prepare for the league’s 50th season.

For next season, the PBA will open with the import-laden Governors’ Cup in mid-August where there will be a height limit of 6-foot-6 for imports.

It will also have a different format as it will divide the league in two groups where a team will face the other teams in the same pool twice, and go against teams in the other group once. The quarterfinals will be a crossover best-of-five series, while the semis and finals will be best-of-seven.

In the second conference, the Commissioner’s Cup, Marcial said the PBA Board is open to a no height limit requirement for the imports.

“Pumayag na rin ang Board sa pino-propose ko na unlimited height ang Commissioner’s Cup sa second conference,” he said.

(The Board also ok’d on my proposal to unlimited height for Commissioner’s Cup in the second conference.)

The season will end in the Philippine Cup to coincide with the league’s anniversary in April.

The formats in the next two conferences will remain the same.

Marcial also said the PBA will join in the East Asia Super League and is expected to join the FIBA Basketball Champions League Asia.
