Orlando Pirates transfer news: Another player shown exit door!

Orlando Pirates have parted ways with a second player within the space of two days following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

Fortune Makaringe has been released by the club as per a statement which Pirates released on Tuesday afternoon.

Makaringe’s future at the Soweto giants had been the subject of speculation after it became evident that he was no longer in Jose Riveiro’s plans.

He made cameo appearances this past season so much as that he was sometimes played out of position at right-back despite being an attacking midfielder.

Makaringe spent four seasons with Pirates whom he joined from the now relegated Maritzburg United in 2019.

The 31-year-old leaves Pirates having featured in 147 matches across all competitions, while scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists.

ORLANDO PIRATES PART WAYS WITH MAKARINGE – FULL STATEMENT

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that Fortune Makaringe will be leaving the Club,” reads the statement.

“Following four incredible seasons and over 140 matches, our journey with the 31-year-old midfielder has come to an end.

“Words cannot fully express our gratitude and appreciation for Makaringe. Throughout his time with us, he consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism and discipline.

“The Club will always be grateful for his contribution and wishes him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.”

WHICH OTHER PLAYER HAS LEFT THE BUCS SHIP?

Makaringe is the second player to leave the Sea Robbers after Cameroonian striker and flop Souaibou Marou was released on Monday.

Marou was deemed a flop after failing to live up the expectations since his arrival at Pirates two seasons ago.

His lack of game time under Jose Riveiro was a huge contributor to his failure at Pirates, and the technical team recommended that he be released.

This past season, Marou made just four appearances across all competitions – two in the league and a further two in the CAF Champions League without scoring.
