WATCH: Novak Djokovic celebrates by ‘playing’ the violin as he eases into second week of Wimbledon 2024 after win against Alexei Popyrin in R3

Following his third round win over Alexei Popyrin (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6) at Wimbledon on Saturday evening, Novak Djokovic spoke to Sport Klub and revealed that not everything is yet at 100% when it comes to his knee.

The 24-time major champion underwent an operation to repair a torn meniscus on June 5.

“I am glad that you think it’s okay, that’s how it should seem, but it’s far from it,” Djokovic said with a smile to the Sport Klub’s reporter saying that everything is fine with the knee.

“I did move a lot better compared to the first two matches, I am playing more freely in that regard, but it’s far from okay – we are working on the (physiotherapist’s) table all the time so that I am able to play every next match.”

During the Serbian part of his press conference on Saturday, Djokovic also explained why he celebrated by “playing the violin” following his win.

“It was for Tara (Novak’s daughter). She has been playing the violin for some time now, for six months already, so we had a pact that I would celebrate in that way.”

I REALLY HOPE THAT HE CAN COME BACK, BECAUSE HE IS IMPORTANT FOR OUR SPORT FOR MANY REASONS.

Furthermore, the seven-time Wimbledon champion also revealed that he will practice with Nick Kyrgios once again on Sunday.

“I am glad that he is available and that he wants to hit with me. It’s a different feeling when you’re practicing with a fellow player compared to a hitting partner – the focus is different, shots are better, the overall quality of the practice is higher. Nick is a spectacular player, I really hope that he can come back, because he is important for our sport for many reasons. We all know that he is a Top 10 material when he takes things seriously. He has got that ’cocky’ attitude that is appealing to many and that’s what allowed him to beat me, Federer, Nadal – he has the confidence on the biggest stages,” concluded Djokovic.

Djokovic is scheduled to play Holger Rune on Monday in the fourth round. Thus far, Djokovic leads head-to-head 3-2, but this will be the pair’s first meeting on grass.
